There is now an official way to do this in rsync (version 3.1.0 protocol version 31, tested with Ubuntu Trusty 14.04).
#> ./rsync -a --info=progress2 /source /destination

rsync -az --no-inc-recursive --info=progress2 /source /destination
--info=progress2 => indication de la progression par rapport au total
-az (et non avz) => pour ne pas avoir un affichage détaillé au niveau de chaque fichier
--no-inc-recursive => make rsync precompile the whole list of files to be transferred. Which will make it report the correct percentage from the beginning.
