RStudio Server enables you to provide a browser based interface (the RStudio IDE) to a version of R running on a remote Linux server. Deploying R and RStudio on a server has a number of benefits.
One of the reasons to use R for analysis and visualization is the rich ecosystem of ‘packages’ contributed by others. In most cases, just as with smartphones, “There’s a package for that.” If you want to be efficient you need to embrace other people’s work and in the case of R that means installing packages. This post walks you through the basics of package installation and use and gives some tips on workarounds when a package won’t install.

I write a lot about Tasker, and the problem is that the more articles there are, the harder it is to find everything. This post will serve as a launch platform for Tasker content on the site, which will hopefully make it easier to find everything. It contains most Tasker posts from the site, although some have been omitted due to them either being unimportant, or known to be outdated.

Adding source code to ASCIIDoc documents is easy. ASCIIDoctor can be used to easily convert them to HTML5 documents using the html5 backend (which is the default). However, the source code is not rendered with syntax highlighting.
pylabels is a Python library for creating PDFs to print sheets of labels. It uses the ReportLab PDF toolkit to produce the PDF, and works under both Python 2 and Python 3.
The Reportlab library is a great way to generate PDFs in Python. Recently, I noticed that it has the ability to do barcodes. I had heard about it being able to generate QR codes, but I hadn’t really dug under the covers to see what else it could do. In this tutorial, we’ll take a look at some of the barcodes that Reportlab can generate. If you don’t already have Reportlab, go to their website and get it before jumping into the article.

Are you a developer running OS X or Linux, and would like to give Amazon AWS a shot? And do you prefer the command line over fancy GUIs? Read on and you might have your first AWS-provided, Ubuntu-powered Nginx web server running in 30 to 45 minutes. This article will guide you from just having OS X or Linux installed on your computer to a running virtual server on Amazon Web Services (AWS), completely controlled via its Command Line Interface (CLI). If you just start out using Amazon AWS, you'll be able to benefit from the AWS Free Tier for 12 months. This tutorial only uses resources available via the AWS free tier. (Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with Amazon in any other way than as a user.)
